CAC-RAMSAY HEALTH PLANS HELPS CENTRO CAMPESINO; COMPANY STILL CARING FOR SOUTH DADE ONE YEAR AFTER ANDREW

CORAL GABLES, Fla., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- As the one year anniversary of Hurricane Andrew approaches, South Florida-based CAC-Ramsay Health Plans -- the area's second largest health maintenance organization -- is gearing up for a project to help Centro Campesino, a major provider of housing and human services for farm workers in Dade County.
On Saturday, Aug. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., CAC-Ramsay Health Plans will provide approximately 70 volunteers to paint the interior and exterior of Centro Campesino's houses, and to work on various other aesthetic improvements for the housing complex located at 35801 S.W. 186 Ave. in Florida City.
CAC-Ramsay Health Plans has 14 medical centers in Dade and Broward counties. Two of those medical centers are located in deep South Dade, in Cutler Ridge and Homestead.
Says Luis E. Lamela, president/CEO of CAC-Ramsay Health Plans, "We know what a long road it's been for so many of our neighbors and we hope that the Centro Campesino project will help some of those who are still in desperate need of housing. I'm looking forward to being out there and working with a group of our volunteers who want to continue helping our community in South Dade."
Centro Campesino was virtually destroyed by the forces of Hurricane Andrew in August of last year. Centro Campesino director, Steve Mainster is grateful that one year after Andrew, their plight has not been forgotten. "So many people have suffered because of Hurricane Andrew, I'm just so touched that our community still cares. We're thankful to CAC-Ramsay Health Plans for their help. It will be deeply appreciated by the people here."
CAC-Ramsay Health Plans is a South Florida based, federally qualified health maintenance organization, (HMO), serving the health care needs of more than 127,000 members. The company is Florida's first licensed HMO and operates in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. CAC-Ramsay Health Plans is a subsidiary of Ramsay-HMO, Inc., a publicly held managed care company.
