CABLE OAKLAND, BAY CABLEVISION GRANTED PERMISSION TO RETRANSMIT KRON-TV

POTTSTOWN, Pa., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Customers of Cable Oakland and Bay Cablevision will continue to receive KRON-TV over their cable systems after Oct. 6 as part of a retransmission consent agreement between the companies and the broadcast station.
Cable Oakland and Bay Cablevision and NBC affiliate KRON-TV (channel 4) have signed an interim retransmission consent agreement permitting the cable companies to carry KRON on their cable lineup until Dec. 31, 1993, said Debra Krzywicki, corporate vice president for The Lenfest Group, parent company of Cable Oakland and Bay Cablevision.
The agreement means the 72,000 customers of Cable Oakland and the 43,000 customers of Bay Cablevision in the Oakland-San Francisco market will continue to receive KRON-TV. KRON is available on channel 4 on Cable Oakland's and Bay Cablevision's lineup.
"We are very happy we will continue to provide NBC programming to our customers," Krzywicki said. "We look forward to reaching a final agreement with KRON in the near future."
The 1992 Cable Act includes a provision known as retransmission consent. Commercial broadcast stations that choose retransmission consent can require payment from cable companies in exchange for granting the cable company permission to carry the station on its cable system. Cable companies and broadcasters must have an agreement for carriage by Oct. 6, 1993.
Cable Oakland and Bay Cablevision are subsidiaries of the Pottstown- based Lenfest Group. The Lenfest Group serves more than 500,000 customers nationwide through its Cable Oakland, Bay Cablevision, Suburban Cable (Pa.), South Jersey Cablevision (N.J.) and Bridge Cable TV (N.J.) subsidiaries.
