CABLE AD DRAWS REPUBLICANS' IRE COMMITTEE SEEKS STOP TO ANTI-ROGAN SPOT.

Byline: Jennifer Hamm Staff Writer

Republicans called on cable-TV companies Thursday to stop running an advertisement that they allege makes a ``demonstrably false'' claim against Rep. James Rogan, R-Pasadena.

The National Republican Congressional Committee The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is the Republican Hill committee for the United States House of Representatives, working to elect Republicans to that body. Its current chair is Rep. Tom Cole of Oklahoma. The NRCC was formed in 1866.  faxed a five-page letter to three local cable companies saying the advertisement makes an untrue claim when it says: ``Last year Jim Rogan voted to raid the Social Security Trust Fund.''

The letter contends that Rogan, facing a bruising re-election challenge from state Sen. Adam Schiff

``I urge you to pull this ad which is designed to mislead your viewers with this demonstrable falsehood,'' McGahn wrote.

was pulled for two days to change a few words and then went back on the air, and an ad in Kentucky had a word or two changed as well, Del Cecato said.

Although those ads were changed following the complaints, he insisted the Democrats' charges are nevertheless accurate. He said the Republican group failed to mention that it recently asked for a second Kentucky advertisement to be pulled but that it remained on the air.

The ad cites a handful of April 1999 congressional votes that, according to the Republicans' letter, included a provision making ``all Social Security revenues off limits for other uses.''

Rogan's campaign manager Jason Roe Jason Roe can refer to:

``I think by the end of this campaign people are going to be incredibly confused by the incredible distortion,'' he said.

The letter was sent to MediaOne, Charter Communications Charter Communications NASDAQ: CHTR is an American company providing cable television, high-speed Internet, and telephone services to more than 5.7 million customers in 29 states. Schiff's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Schiff and Rogan are fighting for the seat in the 27th Congressional District, which includes Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena and other communities.
