CABLE'S TCI, CENTURY TO POOL SYSTEMS.

Striving for cable service efficiency, TCI (Trustworthy Computing Initiative) An umbrella term from Microsoft for its efforts to improve security in Windows. TCI was announced in 2002 after viruses such as Code Red and Nimda had succeeded in attacking numerous Windows computers.  Communications and Century Communications have agreed to combine and exchange systems in a deal expected to affect thousands of area customers.

Also, the two companies have agreed to a strategic partnership under which they will combine systems in and around the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  area, according to officials.

TCI will contribute systems serving 245,000 customers in areas that include Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Century will contribute systems serving some 500,000 customers in, among other places, the east San Fernando Valley and Sherman Oaks.

Century, which is headquartered in New Canaan, Conn., will own about 75 percent of this partnership with the remainder to be owned by TCI.

The agreement is in line with a move in the cable industry to promote efficiency by concentrating systems in an area, Hindery said. TCI currently has about 1.3 million customers in the Bay Area and about 335,000 in the Valley, east Los Angeles East Los Angeles, uninc. city (1990 pop. 126,379), Los Angeles co., S Calif., a residential suburb of Los Angeles, in an industrial area. It has a large Mexican-American population. There is a performing arts center and a cultural center. A junior college is there.  and Ventura County, he said.

``The industry is trying to bring greater economy of scale and efficiency to its customers so they can be served better and more thoughtfully,'' Hindery said. ``Some operators are simply exchanging.''

The partnership must be approved by local authorities and should be final in a couple months, he said.
