CAA getting into the digital game in deal with Revver.

L.A.-based Rewer Inc., the online viral video platform, has cut a deal for representation with Hollywood talent brokers Creative Artists Agency.

Revver's claim to fame is being the first video network to split its revenues from online advertising with the creators of the videos.

The deal is notable because, until now, CAA has lagged behind its rivals at the William Morris Agency and United Talent Agency in terms of making inroads into the digital sector. Aside from negotiations on Internet rights for its talent, the agency had little to do with the technological universe.

It made something of a splash recently because of its involvement with LonelyGirl15, a series of shorts ostensibly created by a wannabe teen filmmaker, which became popular on Revver rival YouTube.com. The shorts became a hot topic in Hollywood when the videos' creator could not be identified or found. Ultimately, it was revealed to be a CAA-backed professional venture of a young director looking for a feature film deal.

It's more likely that the recent hiring of former CAA agent David Tenzer, who joined Revver as vice president of media partnerships, opened up the lines of communication.

Revver is gleeful about the pact. Founder Steven Starr lauded the "immense set of relationships with creators" that CAA could foster. Left unsaid, but surely a consideration, is the potential for the agency to broker a buyout of the viral video site.

CAA is playing it close to the vest regarding its digital aspirations. A spokesman declined to discuss details of the Revver pact.
