CAA Hosts Technology Conference.

The Chicagoland Apartment Association, an NAA affiliate, will hold TECH.CON 2000, the Third Annual Midwest Technology Conference for owners and managers in the multihousing industry. Held on Oct. 13 at DePaul University Downtown Conference Center, the program will run from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a closing reception.

TECH.CON will feature panel discussions with industry experts on Internet services and marketing, utilities technology, credit and deposit services, video conferencing, key control systems and on-line training as well as related legal issues. A table top trade show will also take place.

Registration for CAA members is $75 per person and $95 per person for non-members which includes continental breakfast, lunch and cocktail reception.

AATC wins Government Relations Competition

The Apartment Association of Tarrant County (AATC) in Ft. Worth, Texas, an NAA affiliate, was recently presented with a trophy by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Awards of Excellence competition, in the area of Government Relations.

The AATC is a 30-year-old professional trade organization representing over 1,100 members and 140,000 units in north central Texas.

One of the key components of the AATC program is its Political Action Committee (PAC) and the PAC contribution matrix used to distribute contributions, which allows for making objective PAC contribution decisions.

ASAE is an individual membership organization made up of more than 25,000 association executives and suppliers. Each year, the ASAE Awards of Excellence bring together some of the best government relations programs in the country. The AATC award was bestowed in the Single Issue/State-Local/Legislative category.

PMAM's Golf Outing Raises Money for Legislative Issues

The Property Management Association of Mid-Michigan (PMAM), an NAA affiliate, recently held their annual golf outing. PMAM had their biggest turnout ever, which also set a record for fundraising. All proceeds go toward the legislative issues for the state association, which PMAM belongs.

O'Leary Paint's Team won first place and the Waste Management team won the most creative team picture. The event was sponsored by over 20 vendors and management companies in the Lansing area.

NAA EVP Culkin Speaks at Multi-housing Laundry Association

Doug Culkin, CAE, CIC, recently spoke at the MultiHousing Laundry Association's 41st Annual Convention. Culkin, executive vice president of the National Apartment Association, spoke about the importance of strategic partnerships and about the Colorado Responsible Growth Initiative.

Initiative 256 is a proposed state constitutional amendment that will, in effect, require popular vote on all future development in most areas of the state.

The Apartment Association of Metro Denver, an NAA affiliate, is opposed to Initiative 256.

The MLA is the North American trade association of operating and supplier companies--offering professional laundry systems for the multi-housing industry. It is the only national organization of its kind.
