CA-OPENROAD FOR WINDOWS 3.1 AND NT SHIPPING BY CHRISTMAS; Three Months Early, UNIX Version To Ship In March.


ISLANDIA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--December 6, 1994--Computer Associates today announced that CA-OpenROAD for Windows 3.1 and Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  will be out by Christmas while the UNIX UNIX

Built around a full-function repository, CA-OpenROAD is the new version of the highly-regarded Windows 4GL The predecessor to CA-OpenRoad, it is a client/server development tool for Windows and X terminals. It was originally developed by Ingres Corporation, which was acquired by the Ask Group, and later CA. See CA-OpenRoad.  graphical and object-oriented application development tool. It automates client/server application development for CA-OpenIngres as well as applications supporting Oracle, Sybase and Microsoft SQL/Server.

CA-OpenROAD features platform-independent performance improvements and a more Windows-oriented look and feel. It includes an unparalleled suite of built-in development aids, including easy-to-use painters, an expressive programming language, powerful vendor-supplied class libraries, and a robust client/server application debugger Software that helps a programmer debug a program by stopping at certain breakpoints and displaying various programming elements. The programmer can step through source code statements one at a time while the corresponding machine instructions are being executed. .

"Clients will be pleased that we've met the delivery timetable for Windows 3.1 and Windows NT, but they'll also discover that the UNIX version will roll out at a very much higher level of quality than they had come to expect under ASK," noted Marc Ferrie, a former ASK/Ingres product chief who is now CA-OpenROAD development manager at CA's Alameda Development Center.

Client response to the enhanced functionality of CA-OpenROAD has been as enthusiastic as their reaction to CA's higher standard of quality.

Installed at some 700 major corporate sites in 20 countries and serviced by a network of 30 distributors, PROPHECY is one of the world's most successful CA-Ingres applications.
