Customers can also change applications--such as shifting from Lotus Notes Messaging and groupware software from IBM Lotus that was introduced in 1989 for OS/2 and later expanded to Windows, Mac, Unix, NetWare, AS/400 and S/390. Backup solutions have historically required customers to piece together recovery management from hundreds or even thousands of separate SKUs. This often forced them to devote significant time and effort to the configuration of their backup software See backup program. (tool, software) backup software - Software for doing a backup, often included as part of the operating system. Backup software should provide ways to specify what files get backed up and to where. and to relicense if configuration changes were made after the initial purchase. CA's innovative new approach eliminates these IT management headaches--while also offering customers more attractive pricing. "As IT organizations adopt a unified approach to recovery management, where multiple forms of data protection from one vendor are managed from a central console, it has become even more important to consolidate offerings and streamline the purchasing and installation process," said Lauren Whitehouse, analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "CA's suite approach relieves an already overtaxed IT organization from non-strategic tasks and allows them to rapidly ensure the integrity of their recovery management system." CA's new pricing model will also benefit CA Channel Partners by accelerating the sales cycle and eliminating time-consuming configuration tasks. "CA's new simplified pricing makes it much easier for our account executives to specify client requirements, while allowing us to offer extremely competitive pricing on a recovery management solution that is industry leading," said David Casillo, senior vice president of product management at Insight, a leading systems, software and services provider. "Once again, CA has demonstrated that they understand and care about the real-world business challenges that their Channel Partners face every day." Customers currently using CA ARCserve Backup technology can still use the previous pricing model to add individual agents or options to their existing configurations--in addition to using the new model for new servers. CA has also simplified pricing for CA XOsoft WANSync and WANSyncHA by reducing the number of SKUs to just eight. CA XOsoft products are integrated with CA ARCserve Backup enabling customers to select from a continuum of data protection technologies, including high-performance backup, replication, CDP CDP (cytidine diphosphate): see cytosine.
