Generic Scanner Feature Reads Any Mainframe Language

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today began shipping a new version of CA-Impact/2000 that utilizes new scanning technology to pinpoint non-compliant millennium sensitive code in any mainframe language, including COBOL, Assembly, FORTRAN, PL/1 and popular 4GLs from CA and other software vendors. The new release also supports analysis of CA-Telon, a comprehensive solution for designing, generating and maintaining mission-critical COBOL and PL/1 applications.

CA-Impact/2000 is the application inventory and assessment component of CA's award winning Discovery 2000 toolset.

With the new release, data collected by CA-Impact/2000 is stored in its database in the same format used for COBOL, CA-Easytrieve, CA-ADS, CA-IDEAL and CA-Telon analysis, allowing seamless management of automatic code changes. The generic scanner supports library control statements from CA-Librarian, CA-Panvalet, and CA-Endevor.

CA-Impact/2000 uses a comprehensive parsing engine to build a repository of information relating to client applications. The software can also analyze single, multiple, or entire libraries at a single execution, estimating total cost of conversion based on its analysis of the lines of code containing date-sensitive fields.

A customizable pattern file can be configured to look for date matches specific to a client's application development techniques. The repository then becomes the foundation for analysis via scalable reports, from a detailed line-by-line level for the programmer to an overall view for senior management.

CA-Impact/2000 executes in MVS, VSE, and Windows environments. On the desktop PC, CA-Impact/2000 Workbench provides a graphical interface to help identify and analyze the lines of code that reference date-sensitive fields, directly or indirectly, as when a date field is moved to another field, or implicitly, as when a field is re-defined. Because the Workbench includes a complete COBOL development environment, programmers can also use it to make code changes quickly, and compile and test programs.
