CA Addresses Backup Needs Of Small Business Market With ARCserve For Windows NT Single Server.

New Support For Centralized Backup Of Workstations Delivers A Complete Backup Solution For Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced major enhancements to ARCserve for Windows NT Single Server edition, its award-winning backup and restore solution. The product, which delivers robust backup and restore capabilities for Windows NT Server, now also provides centralized backup for remote network desktops running Windows 3.x Windows 3.x can refer to either an individual or all of the following versions of Microsoft Windows:
  • Windows 3.0
  • Windows 3.1x
These should not be confused with the first three releases of Windows NT, which were also given "3.x" version numbers, i.e.

Administrators can implement desktop backups and restores to a Windows NT backup server A computer in a network used to store copies of files from client machines or other servers. Other new features include support for the removable drives and low-end tape drives that are becoming increasingly popular in the small business and workgroup markets, including: Syquest, Iomega Jaz and Zip drives, Travan, Power Drive, and Optical drives. In addition, ARCserve Single Server's suggested retail price has been reduced from $795 to $695.

To facilitate migration of users from the Windows NT backup utility, ARCserve for Windows NT Single Server also reads the data that has been written in the Microsoft Tape Format (MTF (1) (Modulation Transfer Function) A measurement of monitor sharpness. MTF compares the contrast ratio between alternating black and green lines that are one pixel thick. ), enabling users to restore data copied to tape by the backup utility built into Windows NT.

ARCserve provides an easy-to-use interface familiar to users of the Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 user interface. To ensure that ARCserve for Windows NT Single Server can be easily implemented by novice users, the product will ship with a Quick Start reference document that outlines a simple three-step installation, backup and restore procedure.
