CA AND MICROSOFT STRENGTHEN ALLIANCE; Agreement Targets Enterprise Computing With Windows NT Server, Microsoft SQL Server And CA-Unicenter And CA's Business Applications.

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 1995--Computer Associates and Microsoft Corporation today announced an alliance under which CA will deliver its business application software products on Windows NT , and Microsoft will create an integrated product that includes CA-Unicenter., Microsoft. Windows NT Server and Microsoft SQL Server runtime.

This integrated product manufactured by Microsoft will include Windows NT Server, Microsoft SQL Server runtime -- both key components of Microsoft BackOffice -- and CA-Unicenter for Windows NT. This co-branded integrated product will be marketed by CA worldwide through its direct sales force and reseller partners.

The companies also announced that the integrated product will be available free to clients who attend CA's worldwide user conference this July, which is expected to attract more than 10,000 users. The two companies also will launch a CA and Microsoft "Enterprise Computing Tour" in 250 cities worldwide later this summer. This seminar series will highlight the enterprise computing benefits of Windows NT and CA's mission-critical software solutions.

Speaking here at Comdex/Windows. World, a major conference for computer and information systems professionals, CA Chairman Charles B. Wang and Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates said the alliance leverages the scalability, performance and ease-of-use of Windows NT with CA's industrial-strength client/server business and management solutions that run today's global corporations.

Under today's initiative:

CA will distribute the integrated package through all its primary channels--direct field sales force, authorized resellers and service providers. CA-Unicenter for Windows NT, developed in cooperation with Microsoft, brings robust management facilities required for enterprise-level computing, including security, scheduling, event management, backup and archiving. Additionally, CA will work with Microsoft to educate and train Microsoft's Solution Partners on CA-Unicenter.

CA will deliver on Windows NT Server its world-class client/server solutions for the critical business challenges of manufacturing, distribution, financial and human resource management. Currently installed at more than 10,000 client sites, these solutions include CA-MANMAN., a complete business management system for managing the entire product life cycle, from engineering design to customer delivery; CA-Masterpiece./2000, a highly scaleable financial management solution that offers a broad range of global accounting applications; and CA-HRISMA , a comprehensive human resources management system.

CA will bring CA-Unicenter/Star to Windows NT Workstation, enabling users to administer the entire enterprise --including mainframes, AS/400 and UNIX systems, LAN servers and desktops-- through Windows NT Workstation. CA-Unicenter/Star is the industry's first cross-platform systems management workstation for client/server environments.

CA and Microsoft will bring "The Enterprise Computing Tour" to 250 cities world-wide. Instructors from both companies will provide expert training on Windows NT Server, CA's client/server business solutions, CA-Unicenter for Windows NT and the Microsoft suite of productivity solutions.

CA and Microsoft will make available free copies of the integrated product to all CA-World attendees who participate in the product specific training. CA-World, CA's worldwide user conference, is expected to attract more than 10,000 enterprise computing professionals to New Orleans, July 16-21.
