CA's Protection Suite for Microsoft Exchange Server includes a new version of its Backup Agent for Microsoft Exchange Server-the first such agent to backup and restore individual mailboxes.

CA has also enhanced its virus protection for Microsoft Exchange by adding virus scan-and-cure for Exchange Messaging Clients. The messaging client virus solution complements the Antivirus Agent for Microsoft Exchange Server, providing another critical layer of protection for e-mail systems.

"Today's knowledge workers live and die by their e-mail, and they're using their mailboxes as a primary repository of critical information," said Tim Kraus, Industry Manager for Tool and Infrastructure, Microsoft Corporation (company) Microsoft Corporation - The biggest supplier of operating systems and other software for IBM PC compatibles. Software products include MS-DOS, Microsoft Windows, Windows NT, Microsoft Access, LAN Manager, MS Client, SQL Server, Open Data Base Connectivity (ODBC), MS Mail, . "By delivering this comprehensive server-and-client, antivirus-and-backup solution for Microsoft Exchange Server, CA is protecting users from the potential business losses that can result from destruction of this invaluable data."

Kraus added that the same principle holds true for CA's Protection Suite for Microsoft Internet Information Server. "The corporate investment represented by the data and applications residing on Internet and intranet Web servers has gone from trivial to mission-critical," he said. "So users really need the effective data integrity solution for IIS (Internet Information Services) Microsoft's Web server. The new version of CA's Backup Agent for Microsoft Exchange Server is the first and only solution to back up and restore individual Exchange folders or mailboxes. It is also available separately.

This feature saves administrators from having to retrieve an entire information store when individual users need their e-mail messages restored. Known as "brick level" backup, the Agent can restore individual folders from either a public or private Information store, without requiring that the remainder of the information store be retrieved.

"We have moved quickly to respond to the changes in the corporate computing environment," said T.M. Ravi, CA vice president of marketing. "Our new Protection Suites for messaging and Internet/intranet servers are indispensable for companies that recognize just how severe the potential consequences of data loss and contamination can be."
