Apoteket AB Chooses CA Software To Manage Mission-Critical IT

Operations For More Than 900 Pharmacies Throughout Sweden

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that Apoteket AB, Sweden's state-owned pharmacy cooperative, has chosen Unicenter TNG to manage its diverse IT network. CA's industry-leading software will help manage a distributed technology environment incorporating more than 900 pharmacies throughout Sweden. Enator AB, one of the Nordic region's largest IT companies and a strategic CA partner, recommended Unicenter TNG and is managing its implementation at Apoteket.

A management framework based on Unicenter TNG has replaced a costly and inefficient solution from a third-party service provider. Apoteket selected Enator AB to formulate a more direct and seamless technology management environment. Enator AB proposed a standardized, comprehensive and efficient management solution based on Unicenter TNG.

Apoteket's environment consists of over 5,000 clients and 1,000 servers. Operating platforms include Windows NT, Windows 98, and Sun Solaris UNIX. "Unicenter TNG will enable us to efficiently manage our highly diversified IT environment from one single operations center," said Svedin.

Apoteket relies on its IT infrastructure to provide reliable and affordable pharmaceutical services. To do so, the company needs to tightly control its entire computing environment.

Initially, Apoteket will deploy Unicenter TNG for centralized management of all company servers and selected desktops. In stages over the next several months, Apoteket will extend Unicenter TNG's management to all 5,000 desktops. Unicenter TNG will also be used to monitor databases, including more than 900 Sybase databases and a 330-gigabyte Oracle database running Apoteket's business applications.

The company expects that Unicenter TNG will play a critical role in simplifying management of its technology infrastructure, streamlining IT operations and improving the general quality of service.
