Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest. , 10-0 in the regular season, turned in its worst performance of the year, committing seven turnovers and looking baffled on defense.

``They kicked our butts in all three phases of the game,'' Crescenta Valley coach Allan Eberhart said. ``They ran on us, which no one had done, and we were unable to stop their run.''

Sophomore quarterback Ruben Villa was the key to Righetti's offense. After a quiet first half, Villa picked up 88 rushing yards as the Falcon defense could not shut down Righetti's option offense.

Crescenta Valley running back Kenny Pritchett did manage to gain 109 yards rushing, but he fumbled three times, twice in Righetti territory.

Falcon quarterback Seth Santoro and Ryan McKnight combined to throw three interceptions and had only 46 yards passing.

Righetti coach Greg Dickinson knew his team was ready for the challenge that Crescenta Valley offered.

``We faced eight playoff teams in our 10 games this year. We know that our league (Northern) is a good one,'' Dickinson said.

Righetti's first score came in the second quarter and was set up by a Falcon turnover. Mark Kier n. 1.
