), a global provider of interoperable network solutions that simplify the transition to on demand networks, today announced that ANGA ANGA Associazione Nazionale Giovani Agricoltori (Italian: National Association of Young Farmers; Italy)  (the German Association of Private CATV (Community Antenna TV) The original name for cable TV. It used a single antenna at the highest location in the community in order to deliver a quality signal to homes in areas with hilly terrain or other interference.  Operators) has invited Dr. Leslie Rysdale, Advanced Systems Engineer for C-COR's EuroPacific Business, to speak at the upcoming ANGA Cable Congress in Cologne, Germany. Dr. Rysdale's presentation, "The Application of RPR (Resilient Packet Ring) A packet-based protocol that provides fault tolerance and statistical multiplexing for the metropolitan and national SONET and Ethernet networks of the carriers.  (Resilient Packet Ring See RPR. ) Technology," is scheduled on June 1, 2005, from 09:30 AM to 10:45 AM local time in the Europa-Saal at the CongressCentre Ost, Cologne Fair Grounds.

RPR is an emerging network architecture and technology for connectivity of various computing, data, and telecommunications devices. An RPR network consists of a set of RPR switches connected together by two counter-rotating optical fiber rings. The ring functions as a shared transport Shared transport is a term which has come into use to provide an extended definition of what has often been thought of and referred to in the past as "public transport". The term has taken on especial relevance as a result of the push to more sustainable transportation or New  medium with a unique protocol that controls access to the ring, arbitrates competing requests for use of ring bandwidth, and implements a service protection mechanism to protect against ring failures. Service subscribers connect to the RPR network primarily through high-speed, relatively inexpensive Ethernet interfaces on the RPR switches. RPR combines the high availability and reliability of existing voice-optimized circuit-switched infrastructures with the superior bandwidth utilization, simplicity, and cost advantages of Ethernet. These capabilities make RPR well suited to support converged multi-service networks that carry bandwidth-hungry data, voice, and video traffic, and more efficient, less complex, and less costly than having data, voice, and video delivered over separate parallel networks.

C-COR has an RPR market offering with its MSP (1) (Management Service Provider or Managed Service Provider) An organization that manages a customer's computer systems and networks which are either located on the customer's premises or at a third-party datacenter.  (Multi-Service Packet Switch) Platform, the industry's first L2-based, 10 Gigabit RPR system that uses a unique flow-based bandwidth management that allows precisely targeted, fine grain, quality of service control.
