Today, cable operations management Operations management is an area of business that is concerned with the production of goods and services, and involves the responsibility of ensuring that business operations are efficient and effective.  has reached a crucial turning point. The industry is migrating to complex two-way, multi-service HFC networks, segmentation, carriage of analog and digital signals, and the increased network requirements for delivering high quality, always-on broadband services. Cable operators are looking to cable-tailored OSS solutions to bridge this transition. In his panel presentation, David Eng examines the business expectations of OSS for cable in terms of technology, service management, and return-on-investment, drawing on statistical results of initial OSS implementations in the industry.

Bill Dawson, C-COR's Director of Technical Marketing Engineering for its Broadband Communications Products Division, will serve as moderator of the SCTE tutorial session (January 14, 2003, 2:45 PM ET) addressing several practical perspectives on OSS implementations, including how OSS fits in with element management, the impact of OSS on customer service and cost savings, and tips on rolling out an operational support system. The session will draw on the experiences of the Time Warner Cable/Advance Newhouse OSS deployment in its Tampa Bay Division.
