C-27J Team Announces C-27J JCA Final Proposal Submittal.

NEW YORK -- The C-27J Team today delivered its final proposal for the Joint Cargo Aircraft (JCA) program, offering its rugged C-27J Spartan airlifter as the best-value solution to the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.

L-3 Communications Integrated Systems (L-3 IS), a subsidiary of L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL), delivered the final proposal on behalf of the C-27J JCA Team. As prime contractor, L-3 Communications leads the C-27J JCA Team, which includes its Integrated Systems subsidiary and key partners, Alenia North America, Inc. (a Finmeccanica company), Boeing Integrated Defense Systems (NYSE: BA), and Global Military Aircraft Systems (GMAS).

The JCA program was established to address operational shortfalls and ease the airlift burden on other fixed-wing and rotary aircraft. The primary mission of the JCA will be to move mission-critical/time-sensitive cargo to forward tactical units in remote, austere locations and land or take off from short unimproved runways. The C-27J offers the ability to carry heavy payloads over extended distances to meet the demanding conditions of combat and peacetime missions. Its exceptional Short Take-off and Landing performance, unequaled ruggedness, survivability and self-deployability features, combined with greater speed, range, and transloadability fully meets the JCA requirements.

The C-27J Spartan is the latest in a successful tradition of military airlifters including the C-27A Spartan and the G-222, which have been deployed by the United States, NATO, Coalition Forces, the United Nations, and Italy in support of military and humanitarian operations in Albania, Armenia, Bosnia, Cambodia, Congo, Operations Desert Shield and Storm, East Timor, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Honduras, Kosovo, Libya, Mali, Panama, Rwanda, Somalia, Uganda and Yemen. C-27A Spartans are currently carrying out vital counter-drug activities for the United States in Central and South America. The C-27J has proven capable of performing logistical re-supply, MEDEVAC, troop movement, airdrop operations, humanitarian assistance and missions of support of Homeland Security. The C-27J is currently flown by the Greek, Italian and Lithuanian Air Forces. It is under production for the Bulgarian Air Force and has recently been selected by Romania.
