Bynari Announces a Major Breakthrough for Linux Desktops With New Insight Messaging and Collaboration Software.

Business Editors & High-Tech Writers

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 2001

Bynari Inc. announced today the availability of a new line of messaging and collaboration products, called Insight, and revealed a major technological breakthrough for Linux desktops.

With their new Insight products, Bynari believes that Linux and UNIX UNIX

Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics).
desktops in the enterprise will now be able to play in the same game with other popular messaging products such as Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes.

For interoperability with Outlook, earlier versions of Bynari's Linux-based messaging and collaboration client application depended on access to Windows messaging components via a Windows NT Server proxy. The new Insight client interoperates directly with Outlook without requiring a proxy. This capability, available only from Bynari, is unique in the industry.

Bynari's primary target market for Insight is "Fortune 1000" companies which have a population of Linux or UNIX-based technical/engineering employees who need to interact with their Windows PC counterparts who use Outlook with Exchange server. With Insight, a single UNIX or Linux user can now install Bynari's client software and immediately join the enterprise, without requiring unique support from the Exchange server.

"This breakthrough opens up a world of new opportunities for integrating the Linux and UNIX desktop user community into the Windows-centric enterprise," said Mike O'Dell, Bynari's CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "Insight provides the capability to simply and cost effectively upgrade a company's Linux and UNIX users with an easy to use, integrated application that interoperates with Outlook and provides Internet standards-based e-mail, IMAP IMAP - Internet Message Access Protocol  shared files and folders, LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) A protocol used to access a directory listing. LDAP support is implemented in Web browsers and e-mail programs, which can query an LDAP-compliant directory.  global address books, scheduling and calendar management functions."

Bynari also said it would begin seeking alliances with the developers of KDE (K Desktop Environment) A GUI-based user interface primarily for Unix and Linux machines, but also available for Windows and Mac. The source code is freely distributed and is maintained by developers around the world.  and GNOME gnome (nōm), in folklore, tiny subterranean creature associated with mines and quarries. Usually represented as misshapen, frequently as hunchbacked, gnomes are said to be guardians of hidden treasures.  to assist them in building clients that will take advantage of Bynari's new technology.

Bynari also announced its Insight client-server solution, consisting of Insight clients and Bynari's Insight Server, which provides a world-class Internet standards-based messaging and collaboration solution for Unix and Linux networks. The new Insight Server now provides messaging and collaboration services to Insight clients, enabling efficient collaboration between workgroups and individual users in enterprises of all sizes. Insight Server also supports Outlook clients.

Insight Server has recently gained broader acceptance as a highly scalable and affordable messaging and collaboration server solution for IBM's zSeries and S/390 mainframes under TurboLinux. Insight Server is also available in a high availability version for Compaq Proliant Non-Stop Clusters.

Insight products can be purchased via the company's Web Shop at www.bynari.net or by contacting Bynari Sales at 800/241-1086.
