2001 Catastrophes: Terrorism, Tropical Storm and Typhoons
The United States accounted for four-fifths of all insured losses
worldwide because of the events of Sept. 11 and Tropical Storm Allison.
An explosion at a fertilizer factory in France explains most of Europe's
losses. In Asia, typhoons Nari and Danas in Taiwan and Japan,
respectively, as well as a major fire in Taiwan drove up the region's
insured losses in 2001.
