By bus.

By bus

   Open your ears
   Opinion poll amongst the commuters
   Sociology of the early morning
The re-introduction of the death penalty
Murder in the alley and the Americans

House children family and the Springbocks
   Measurements in centimeter or inches
Size does count and so does money
   Sixpence and tickies survive
   On the Wynberg route

   Colonial cottages between supermarkets
Rain glistening on obscenely green leaves
Rain drops on the windows make the streets
Break up into magnified dots of colour

Half asleep I am thinking about
   Light from the mountain top
   Slashing the dark grey cloud
While the bus stops every few minutes
To squeeze in a few more passengers

The question as to how many times
A man can do it in one night
   Jou ma se poes!

The smell of freshly peeled oranges
   And sweat, hair in curlers
   And the overpowering smell of
   The phantasies of teenagers

It is always the same thing
And in the end you arrive
   At the office
