Button McLaren gamble.


FOR a driver who rode to the Formula One title by taking as few a risks as possible, Jenson Button's switch to McLaren represents a considerable gamble.

Hamilton is the superior driver and more marketable, so it is unimaginable that McLaren will not construct next year's model around his needs.

That certainly won't suit Button, who is an altogether different breed of racer to the 2008 champion.

Their requirements are incompatible.

Hamilton likes to wrestle with his vehicle, favouring a car with a wild back end, while the Frome-born man prefers a smoother ride.

It has been suggested that Button had little choice in his exit from Brawn following the Mercedes Benz takeover of his former team.

Given their decline at the end of last season, however, the decision to part company may have been mutual.
