Busy life for an organist.

Byline: Val Javin ,

busy Borough organist Gordon Stewart

LIFE doesn't appear to slow down for Gordon Stewart, Kirklees Borough organist and a popular figure on the music circuit.

He's due in Huddersfield on Monday where you'll find him seated at the console of the Father Willis organ to play the lunchtime recital in Huddersfield Town Hall.

The programme, starting at 1pm, will include music by Bach, Buxtehude, Callahan, Reger, Bell and Carter.

Recently he was in Manchester Cathedral, where he was presented with an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists The Royal College of Organists or RCO, is an educational body of the United Kingdom. Its role is to promote organ and choral music and it offers musical education and training for organists and choral directors. .

The college president, Dr Roy Massey, former organist of Hereford Cathedral, read the citation which described Gordon as "a son of the Manse and a native of Bonny Dundee, who enjoys a special relationship with Manchester."

Gordon studied music at Manchester's Royal Northern College of Music The roots of the college begin in the late 19th Century with Sir Charles HallĂ©'s Royal Manchester College of Music. In 1973, the Royal Manchester College of Music and the Northern School of Music merged to create the modern-day RNCM.  and he was, for 11 years, organist in the cathedral where the presentation was made.

He has taught at Chetham's School of Music and at the RNCM RNCM Royal Northern College of Music (formerly Royal Manchester College of Music; UK)  and was director of music at Blackburn Cathedral.

Gordon is also heard regularly as Music Director of the Radio 4 Daily Service conducts numerous editions of BBC BBC
 in full British Broadcasting Corp.

Publicly financed broadcasting system in Britain. A private company at its founding in 1922, it was replaced by a public corporation under royal charter in 1927.
 TV's Songs Of Praise.

He is also committed to parish music as organist at All Saints' Parish Church, Stand, Greater Manchester, just off the M62.

It's a route he knows well as he commutes backwards and forwards across the Pennines to play at concerts, many in Huddersfield, where he has been Kirklees Borough Organist for more than 15 years.
