Bustronic and Arizona Digital Reveal underlying technology of revolutionary high-speed VME320 backplane.

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 24, 1997--Bustronic Corporation and Arizona Digital today announced they revealed the technology behind their patent pending VME (Virtual Machine Environment) An operating system from Fujitsu Services (formerly ICL) that runs on its Series 39 mainframes. Introduced in 1975, VME is a comprehensive product that provides a variety of utilities for datacenter operations. 320 backplane.

The companies did not plan to disclose any technical information regarding the VME320 technology; however, the tremendous public and industry response to the new backplane led Bustronic and Arizona Digital to the decision to unveil the inner workings of the VME320 at a recent industry conference.

The new backplane transfers data at a rate of 320-Mbytes/second and is also available in a 160-Mbytes/second version, the VME160. With radically new backplane technology, the VME320 is more than five times faster than conventional VME64. Unlike the `extended' VME64, the innovative VME320 is fully compatible with the existing base of VME boards, twice as fast and is much easier to use.

The inventor, Andrew Berding of Arizona Digital, presented the VME320 technology at the VITA Standards Organization A standards organization, also sometimes referred to as a standards body, a standards development organization or SDO (depending on what is being referenced), is any entity whose primary activities are developing, coordinating, promulgating, revising, amending,  (VSO VSO (in Britain) Voluntary Service Overseas

A 2006 U.S.  on March 19. An electronic copy of Mr. Berding's presentation is available on the Bustronic website at http://www.bustronic.com .

"As I've said before, with our new VME320 technology there are no trade-offs. This is the high performance alternative," said Fred Hirsch, general manager of Bustronic. "It was exciting to be able to describe the technology behind the VME320 at the VSO meeting."

Key features of the VME320 backplanes are fully forward and backward compatibility to VME systems, ultra high-speed, thoroughly reliable, easy to use, are less expensive than other recent approaches to high performance backplanes. Bustronic's new VME320 supports VME, VME64, and VME64x data transfers as well as synchronous source transfer (SST SST: see airplane. ) which takes advantage of the VME320's high-performance backplane technology.

Andrew Berding, President of Arizona Digital added, "I enjoyed presenting the fundamentals behind my VME320 design to the brightest -- and most skeptical -- minds in the VME world. The response was universally positive. It's been very frustrating not to be able to show the development of backplane technology that pushes VME to a whole new level."

About Arizona Digital

Arizona Digital is located in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Company's president, Drew Berding, has been in high technology design since 1958 and founded several companies, including Advanced Memory Systems (Intersil), Dawn Technology (a turn-key engineering design house) and Ultra Network Technology (200 MB/s channel interfaces to the Cray XMP-48).

Mr. Berding designed most of Bustronic Corporation's VME, VME64, VXI (VME EXtensions for Instrumentation) A peripheral bus specialized for data acquisition and real time control systems. Introduced in 1987, VXI uses all Eurocard form factors and adds trigger lines, a local bus and other functions suited for measurement applications. , ISA (1) (Instruction Set Architecture) See instruction set.
