Bustronic Boosts VME's Bandwidth; Launches New VME320/64x Plug-and-Play Backplane For High-Performance Applications.

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 1998--Offering 100% compatibility with VME (Virtual Machine Environment) An operating system from Fujitsu Services (formerly ICL) that runs on its Series 39 mainframes. Introduced in 1975, VME is a comprehensive product that provides a variety of utilities for datacenter operations. 64x and all VME legacy systems, Bustronic today launched its newest backplane, the 21 slot, 6U, VME320.

The first of a family of 64x backplanes, Bustronic's VME320 provides enhanced performance and extends functionality to VME - the single largest selling bus architecture for the high-performance real-time embedded applications. The new VME320 backplane is uniquely designed to minimize noise for cleaner and faster data transfer. It features reflectionless data transfer and 160-pin DIN connectors.

integrated, standard solutions to help them achieve business advantages," said Fred Hirsch, general manager of Bustronic. "The VME320 is an off-the-shelf backplane that enhances VME64x performance, offering OEMs warp speed capabilities with future compatibility to the revolutionary 320 platform."

Bustronic's new standardized VME320 backplane conforms to VITA standard 1.1-1997. Covering features to be added to VME and VME64 boards, backplanes, and subracks in twenty critical areas, the VITA standard includes guidelines for expanded I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

pins, bused and unbused pins, and pin connectors; increased power voltage and signal ground returns; and test and maintenance pin assignments.

The VME320 is also a vital bridge to forthcoming VME technology which will enable data rate transfer of 320 Mbytes/sec and can incorporate the soon to be approved Source Synchronous Data Transfer (SST SST: see airplane. ) protocol. Able to enhance current performance and provide the link to VME's future, Bustronic's VME320 is competitively priced with VME64x backplanes. This new backplane preserves customers' investments in software and I/O while supporting critical applications, including the latest high-performance RISC RISC
