Businessman/Athlete Willie D. Davis and Statesman/General Alexander M. Haig, Jr. Named to MGM Board of Directors.

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 1999--Businessman and athlete Willie D. Davis and honored statesman General Alexander M. Haig, Jr. have been elected directors of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. (NYSE:MGM), increasing the Board to nine members, it was announced today by Frank G. Mancuso, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Davis's professional career spans diverse businesses and award winning athletics. He is currently president and owner of All Pro Broadcasting, Inc., which operates radio stations in California and Wisconsin. He spent 27 years in the beer/wine beverage distribution industry, serving in various management positions, including 18 years as owner and president of West Coast Beverage Company.

Prior to that, Mr. Davis enjoyed a celebrated career as a professional athlete in the National Football League, where he played ten years with the Green Bay Packers, including acting as team captain for Super Bowls I and II, and two years with the Cleveland Browns. During that time, he dedicated three off seasons to serving as an educator in the Cleveland Public School District.

In addition to MGM, Mr. Davis serves on the Boards of Sara Lee Corporation, K-Mart, Dow Chemical Company, MGM Grand Inc., Alliance Bank, WICOR Inc., Johnson Controls Inc., L.A. Gear, Strong Fund, and Rally's Inc. He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.

General Haig, one of the country's most respected statesmen, has a long and distinguished career in public service and business as well as the military. He is currently chairman of his own advisory firm, Worldwide Associates Inc., which assists corporations around the world, providing strategic advice on global political, economic, and security environments. A highly decorated officer in the military, he was Supreme Allied Commander of NATO and White House Chief of Staff under Presidents Nixon and Ford and Secretary of State under President Reagan.

He became the senior military advisor to the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, Dr. Henry Kissinger, in 1969, and later became Deputy Assistant. In 1972, he was promoted to full general and served as Vice Chief of Staff of the Army before President Nixon named him White House Chief of Staff, which prompted General Haig's retirement from the Army after 26 years of active duty. He was recalled to active duty in 1974 by President Ford to serve as Commander-in-Chief, U.S. European Command, and as Supreme Allied Commander in Europe. General Haig was subsequently elected president and chief operating officer of United Technologies Corporation, where he served until 1981, when President-elect Reagan named him to the post of Secretary of State.

General Haig also is the author of two books: Caveat: Realism, Reagan and Foreign Policy (1984); and an autobiography, Inner Circles: How America Changed the World - A Memoir (1992). He presently sits on the Boards of America Online, Inc., Interneuron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and MGM Grand Inc., and is a senior advisor to several multinational corporations.
