Business intelligence to trigger fundamental restructuring of organisations. (Storage Developments).A new report, 'The Intelligent Enterprise: Competitive Use of Intelligence in Business concludes that the new enterprise will be made up of self-sufficient cells of employees, each with their own calculation means, their own decision power and their own access to resources from a common pool of information. The catalyst to this will be the increasing availability of BI tools on desktops throughout the company, giving employees a much greater role in the decision-making process. Jacques Hale, Director of Butler Gp. BI vendors will risk becoming marginalised unless they provide sufficient EM tools to ensure data is available both to and from a variety of data formats and applications. 'Information is required at every juncture, from every application and repository, independent of where it resides", says Jacques Hale. "A mechanism has to be established by which all data will become accessible in a timeframe that is acceptable. BI is the nerve system of the enterprise, connecting back and front office."
