EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

ALTHOUGH budgets remained steady at the 25 largest business improvement districts in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County for 2002, there was plenty of movement behind the scenes.

The Westwood Westwood.

1 Residential town (1990 pop. 12,557), Norfolk co., E Mass., in the greater Boston area; settled 1640, inc. 1897. It has several early 18th-century buildings.

2 Residential borough (1990 pop. 10,446), Bergen co., NE N.J.
 Village BID, last year's No. 5, was disbanded in September September: see month.  after 5th District Councilman Jack Weiss Jack Weiss, is a member of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 5th district.  Downtown Downtown (called a "city centre" in British English) is a term used in North America when referring to a city's core, usually both in a geographical and commercial / community sense.  Center BID, No. 1 on the list.

The No. 2 Fashion District BID, also up for renewal this year, faces the prospect of a competing BID proposed by unhappy property owners. The new BID would encompass about 90 percent of the Fashion District's existing area.

No. 6 L.A. Downtown Industrial District is currently going through its first renewal. The property-based BID has plans to roughly double its coverage area, from 34 blocks to 67 blocks, expanding to the north and south of its current location.

THE PACESETTER

DOWNTOWN CENTER BID

CALL it a four-peat for the Downtown Center Business Improvement District. The 64-block district is again L.A.'s largest, with its budget holding steady at $4.5 million from the previous year.
