Making use of regional events to promote business growth

The Partnership hosted site selectors during these premier events to improve the image of Detroit as a great place to do business and provided introductions to key decision influencers in the region's local business and economic development community. They worked to develop strong long-term relationships with the prospects and site consultants. During those two events, 45 international clients were hosted from seven regions around the world. The Auto Show An auto show, or motor show, is a public exhibition of current automobile models, debuts, concept cars, or out-of-production classics. It is commonly attended by automobile manufacturers. Most auto shows occur once or twice a year.  is another annual event that the Partnership takes advantage of to host delegations and showcase the region's highly skilled engineering and science talent base (see bottom photo and caption).

Selling the region on emerging industries

European companies It may never be fully completed or, depending on its its nature, it may be that it can never be completed. However, new and revised entries in the list are always welcome.

This is a list of companies from the countries in the European Union.
 in emerging sectors such as advanced materials Advanced Materials is a leading peer-reviewed materials science journal published every two weeks. Advanced Materials includes Communications, Reviews, and Feature Articles from the cutting edge of materials science, including topics in chemistry, physics,  and alternative energy are increasingly looking at the Detroit region for their North American business. This year the Partnership introduced the Energy Solutions Initiative, which built on two platforms: one based on alternative and renewable energy technologies and the other on energy efficiency technologies. The Partnership organized its first Energy Solutions mission to Europe in April. The mission's purpose was to create an awareness among companies globally about opportunities in our region for new technologies and to connect members of the mission to businesses and organizations from around the world that are involved in alternative energy technologies.

Open Innovation

This year the Partnership continued to develop the new, collaborative initiative called Open Innovation. Its goal is to help members connect with other businesses globally to develop and apply innovation and thus diversify into new sectors and markets, thereby increasing their competitiveness and growth and improving our overall economic climate. Using WIRED grant money from the U.S. Department of Labor, the Partnership is working with a coalition of community colleges in Southeast Michigan Southeast Michigan, also called Southeastern Michigan, is a region in the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan that is home to a majority of the state's businesses and industries, and is home to slightly over half the state's population.  that have programs to train workers for specific industries, sectors and technologies.

2008-2009 Business Attraction Missions

Over the past program year, the Partnership participated in 15 international business attraction missions that included meetings and seminars in Austria, Canada, China, Germany, India, Japan and Korea.

By the Numbers

During the 2008-2009 program year, the Partnership assisted 59 companies either locate to or expand in the Detroit region. These projects represent over $241 million in new business and 860 new jobs in the region.

Over the past nine years, the Partnership has helped 446 companies either locate to or expand in the Detroit region. Approximately 11,385 new jobs have been created through a total investment of $3.7 billion over this period.
