Unitil seeks raise

Unitil Corp., of Hampton, N.H., owner of Fitchburg Gas and Electric Light Co., announced yesterday it has filed an application for a rate increase with the Massachusetts Dept. of Public Utilities, to be effective June 1.

The higher rate, which Unitil said is made necessary by increased energy supply costs, would cause an increase of 1.5 percent in monthly bills for a residential customer using 550 kwh per month, but exact bill changes would vary depending on the type of customer and usage, Unitil said in a statement.

Charter warned

Nasdaq officials told the company, which provides cable TV and other services in Central Massachusetts, that Charter's Class A common stock closed below $1 per share for 30 consecutive days, Charter said in a news release.

Charter has until Oct. 13 to regain compliance. The company said its stock must trade above $1 per share for 10 consecutive days to meet Nasdaq's listing rule.

Business program

NORTHBRIDGE - An evening session of the Worcester State Entrepreneurship Certificate Program will be offered beginning May 5 at the Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The program is open to the public and was developed for entrepreneurs starting or running a small business.

The certificate course comprises six sessions, a total of 21 hours of lecture, discussion and practice. Classes are scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at the chamber offices at 110 Church St., Whitinsville.
