MISCOR acquires California motor shop

Industrial services provider MISCOR Group Ltd. of South Bend South Bend, city (1990 pop. 105,511), seat of St. Joseph co., N Ind., on the great south bend of the St. Joseph River, in a farming and mint-growing region; inc. as a city 1865. , Ind., has bought the business and assets of Visalia Electric Motor Shop, Inc., of Visalia, Calif., a provider of repair, maintenance, and overhaul services for mission-critical motors and generators. Visalia's roster of customers covers 14 western states.

MISCOR says the addition will expand the wind-generation repair and maintenance capabilities of its Magnetech Industrial Services subsidiary, of which the Visalia business will become a part. "This acquisition helps cement our growing geographic service reach on the West Coast and will enable us to further expand our wind-related customer base while adding new customers to our core industrial services business," says MISCOR CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  John Martell.

, a 50,000-square-foot locomotive and rail car service center in Montreal. The Canadian operation, a first for MISCOR, is a division of American Motive Power, Inc., which is a unit of MISCOR' Repair, Remanufacturing, and Manufacturing Division. MISCOR says the facility provides "significant track access" to the Canadian National main line "and will allow AMP to offer a full range of services, including inspections, running repairs, overhaul, and modification programs."

Megger buying Swedish instrument supplier

Dallas-based diagnostic instrument manufacturer Megger Group has announced it is acquiring Pax Diagnostics of Sweden, maker of transformer testing and insulation diagnostics products. The Pax IDAX range of dielectric frequency response analyzers are designed for measuring moisture in power transformers as well as testing insulation material in various power system products. Avtron acquiring magnetic encoder supplier

Cleveland-based Avtron Industrial Automation, Inc., a manufacturer of magnetic and optical encoders for motors used in rugged and extreme environments, has acquired the assets of Admotec, Inc., of Lebanon, N.H., a manufacturer of components for magnetic encoders. Operations of the business are to remain in New Hampshire New Hampshire, one of the New England states of the NE United States. It is bordered by Massachusetts (S), Vermont, with the Connecticut R. forming the boundary (W), the Canadian province of Quebec (NW), and Maine and a short strip of the Atlantic Ocean (E). . Chicago-based industrial products distributor Grainger has opened its first branch in Panama. The new branch office, in Panama City, offers businesses and institutions a large inventory of products to keep facilities running. The company's 23,000-square-foot Panama showroom and storage facility houses more than 20,000 products, including motors and power transmission, electrical, lighting, cleaning and painting supplies, safety equipment, material handling, and power. Polymer maker building Chinese facility

Ticona, of Florence, Ky., a manufacturer of engineered polymers, is planning to build a new liquid-crystal polymer production facility at a chemical complex in Nanjing, China, operated by its parent company, Celanese Corp. Construction is to begin next year, and the facility is expected to be running in 2010.

Meeting addresses automation standards

The Automation Federation of Research Triangle Park Research Triangle Park, research, business, medical, and educational complex situated in central North Carolina. It has an area of 6,900 acres (2,795 hectares) and is 8 × 2 mi (13 × 3 km) in size. Named for the triangle formed by Duke Univ. , N.C., through a partnership with the U.S. Dept. of Labor, gathered dozens of experts from across North America this past September to begin creation of an Automation Competency Model - a federal document that defines automation and will serve as a formally recognized model for automation careers. The model is to be used by the secondary and post-secondary educational systems, career counselors, and human resources departments.
