TEMPLETON - Peter R. Store to open

STURBRIDGE - A Minnesota clothing company plans to open a store this spring at the Center at Hobbs Brook, a shopping center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into  off Route 20.

Officials from maurices, a chain of 550 stores selling men's and women's clothes, said the 3,846-square-foot store will open in April and have approximately eight employees. The 76-year-old company is owned by The Dress Barn Inc. maurices has another Massachusetts store in Greenfield.

Housing poll

AMHERST - Massachusetts residents are deeply concerned about the cost of housing and its effect on their communities, according to a poll released yesterday.

Over 66 percent of residents polled rated the cost of housing as a significant 2006 concern, up from 48 percent a year earlier, according to the poll, which was conducted by the University of Massachusetts The system includes UMass Amherst, UMass Boston, UMass Dartmouth (affiliated with Cape Cod Community College), UMass Lowell, and the UMass Medical School. It also has an online school called UMassOnline.  Donahue Institute and Citizens Housing and Planning Association.

The poll of 515 residents found that 35.9 percent reported they or members of their immediate family have considered moving out of state because of the cost of housing, up from 24 percent in 2005.

Those polled said they hope Gov. Deval L. Patrick makes affordable housing a top priority.
