Business Roundtable Convenes Second Meeting of The Springboard Project.


Expert Commissioners Formulate Recommendations on Global Competitiveness Through Workforce Development

WASHINGTON -- Yesterday, Business Roundtable Business Roundtable (BRT), an association consisting of the chief executive officers of major U.S. corporations that was founded in 1972 through the merger of the three preexisting business organizations. , an association of chief executive officers of leading U.S. corporations, convened the second meeting of The Springboard Project - an independent commission that will develop innovative approaches to help Americans acquire and refine the new skills and the education needed to thrive in the 21st century's evolving labor market labor market A place where labor is exchanged for wages; an LM is defined by geography, education and technical expertise, occupation, licensure or certification requirements, and job experience .

Business Roundtable launched The Springboard Project in March to address concerns about employability as today's jobs disappear or become obsolete and tomorrow's jobs require higher levels of skills and education.

"Recent unemployment figures indicate that this recession is having the greatest impact on workers with the least education, and Americans will need to upgrade their education and skills to stay competitive in the global marketplace," said William D. "The Springboard Project could not be more timely in its focus on helping Americans develop the skills needed to thrive today and tomorrow. In the coming months, we will release our recommendations and work with stakeholders to put them into action."

As the members of the Springboard Project began to formulate recommendations, they discussed public opinion with Joel Benenson, Founding Partner and President of Benenson Strategy Group, who presented findings from recent focus groups in Columbus, Ohio Columbus is the capital and the largest city of the American state of Ohio. Named for explorer Christopher Columbus, the city was founded in 1812 at the confluence of the Scioto and Olentangy rivers, and assumed the functions of state capital in 1816.  and Denver, Colorado that probed workers' attitudes and behaviors toward job skills and training. Working with Benenson Strategy Group, The Springboard Project also is sponsoring a public opinion survey to help inform the commission's final recommendations.
