the 2006 market share numbers issued this week by IDC. With 2006 BI software license and maintenance revenues of $893.6 million, Business Objects owns a 14 percent share of the business intelligence software tools market.

The IDC report, "Worldwide Business Intelligence 2006 Vendor Shares (June 2007, #207422)," combines software license and maintenance revenue data from query, reporting, and analysis tools, as well as advanced analytics software. In the report, IDC notes that in 2006, the BI market grew 11.5% to reach $6.25 billion in worldwide software revenues. In addition, IDC reported that Business Objects BI tools revenue is now 30 percent larger than the next closest vendor. Business Objects also continues to lead the end-user query, reporting, and analysis tools category, the largest segment of the BI market, capturing nearly 18 percent of that market.

"This marks the seventh year that IDC's published report identifies Business Objects as the software revenue market leader in Business Intelligence," said Dan Vesset, vice president of Business Analytics research at IDC. "Our latest information on the uptake of the BusinessObjects[TM] XI platform suggests a pickup in growth in the latter part of 2006 and early 2007. Business Objects is also making an aggressive push into the mid-market where it targets organizations with less than $1 billion in revenue."
