Business Journal wins accolades from Press Club.


The Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Business Journal received three awards at Los Angeles Press Club's 48th annual Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Journalism Awards event.

Managing Editor Laurence Darmiento received first place in the under 100,000 circulation business category for a profile of billionaire Eli Board entitled "Philanthropist's Path." The judges found the article to be well researched, with multiple sources.

In the special section category for newspapers with a circulation under 100,000, Andy Fixmer and staff garnered the top prize for a piece called "Who Owns Downtown?"

The Business Journal also was awarded honorable mention in the business category for "CEOs Under Siege" by Hilary Potkewitz, Kate Berry, Howard Fine Howard Fine (November 28, 1958) is an American acting teacher, the founder of the Howard Fine Acting Studio in Hollywood, CA, and also a theatre director. Mark Lacter, former editor of the Los Angeles Business Journal, was a finalist for signed commentaries in newspapers with circulations of fewer than 100,000. The newspaper's staff" had another finalist contender in the special section category for its package entitled "Wealthiest Angelenos--Doing the Deal."

The awards event took place at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel The Biltmore Hotel is a hotel located in downtown Los Angeles, California. Built by John McEntee Bowman, it opened in 1923. At the time, it was the largest hotel west of Chicago and designed by architects Schultze and Weaver. It is now named the Millennium Biltmore.  on June 24. TV personality Larry King Larry King (born November 19, 1933) is an award-winning American writer, journalist and broadcaster. He currently hosts a nightly interview program on CNN called Larry King Live, one of the longest running talk shows on American air.  spoke and was lauded with the President's Award for his impact on the media.

Another key honor was given to Yahoo News foreign correspondent Kevin Sites, who was given the Daniel Pearl Award for courage and integrity. CBS (Cell Broadcast Service) See cell broadcast.  reporter Dave Lopez, who has covered Orange County for nearly 30 years, was given the Joseph M. Quinn Award for journalistic excellence and distinction.
