 - Lithia Motors Inc., helped by no-interest loans from automakers, reported a 9 percent increase in fourth-quarter profits, as revenue rose 29 percent compared to the same period a year ago.

Elmer's Restaurants' earnings increase

PORTLAND - Elmer's Restaurants Inc., its performance boosted by the acquisition of a group of Puget Sound Puget Sound (py`jĕt), arm of the Pacific Ocean, NW Wash., connected with the Pacific by Juan de Fuca Strait, entered through the Admiralty Inlet and extending in two arms c.  eateries, on Thursday reported that third-quarter profits grew 33 percent on a 36 percent rise in revenue.

Elmer's said it earned $243,000, or 12 cents a share, in the period ended Jan. 7, compared to $182,000, or 10 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. Revenue rose to $26.4 million, up from $18.5 million in the third quarter of 2000.

In December 2000, Elmer's acquired six Mitzel's American Kitchen restaurants in the Puget Sound area of Washington. Elmer's, which closed one of the Mitzel's after the purchase, paid for the restaurants with $975,000 in cash and 130,000 shares of Elmer's stock.

Elmer's, which operates Ashley's and Jasper delis, said it will open an Elmer's in Nampa, Idaho Nampa (IPA: [næm pə]) is the largest city in Canyon County, Idaho, United States, and the second largest in the state. Only the capital city, Boise, is larger. , in April. It also announced a 5 percent stock split to shareholders of record on March 7.
