The Eugene-based bank's holding company on Wednesday reported that it earned $400,000, or 8 cents a share, in the quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with $1.5 million, or 29 cents a share, in the year earlier period. Pacific Continental on Oct. 1 had announced that a loan on a Portland-area hotel that was in default forced it to boost its allowance for potential loan losses by $1.2 million, cutting into profits. Hotel loans account for 9 percent of the bank's loan portfolio, the firm said. On Wednesday, Pacific Continental also said executive severance costs shrunk the bottom line. The bank's net interest margin, the difference between what it earns on loans and what it pays on deposits, declined slightly from the year-ago quarter.
