With 17 years of credit union experience, Grout most recently served as director of lending for Spokane Teachers Credit Union where he was responsible for loan portfolio and asset liability management, as well as risk-based lending and regulatory compliance. Katie Sproles has joined the University of Oregon Museum of Art in Eugene as public relations and marketing coordinator. With 10 years of public relations, marketing and sales experience, Sproles will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of public relations and marketing for the museum. Alan Beck has joined KEZI-TV in Eugene as news director. He will oversee newsroom operations for KEZI news in Eugene and the KEZI news bureau in Roseburg that will begin operations in mid-April. For the past nine years, Beck has served as the associate news director and manager of daily news operations at KMSP-TV/WFTC-TV in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Carl Kern has joined ShelterCare in Eugene as director of vocational services. He will coordinate and integrate vocational services with the center's support living programs, as well as provide training to program staff in vocational service skills, on-the-job support, and client-focused service planning. With over nine years of social service experience, Kern most recently worked as an employment specialist for Laurel Hill Center in Eugene. KUDOS Ellen Knight, of McKenzie-Willamette Hospital, has received an award from the Lane County Chapter of Medical Assistants for Certified Medical Assistant of the Year. The award is in recognition for making an outstanding contribution to the Lane chapter. A corporate identity brochure designed for The REACH Foundation by Thomas Lincoln of Lincoln Design in Springfield has been selected to appear in the publication, American Corporate Identity/18. REACH is a not-for-profit funding source for the clinical treatment of drug and alcohol addiction. KEZI-TV News has won 11 awards of excellence from the Oregon Associated Press for news coverage in 2001. First place awards are: best spot news by Laurie Shilling and Syd Bates; best treatment of a single subject by Rick Dancer and Gary Diamond; best news writing by Rick Dancer and Gary Diamond; and best sports reporting by Steve Hushek. Additional awards received are: second place, treatment of a single subject by Simon Gutierrez and Alan Dale; second place, news writing by Rick Dancer and Michael Brandenberger; and third place, sports reporting by Dennis Schrag. Also, Lisa Verch and Alan Dale won second place for investigative reporting, and Simon Gutierrez won third place.
