Bush still playing WMD card--CIA said otherwise.During a speech to a group of business leaders in Irvine, California, on April 24, President Bush warned that terrorists want to use Iraq as a safe haven. The president elaborated: "And here's the danger of having an enemy with a safe haven in Iraq. Iraq has got wealth. Iraq has--had weapons of mass destruction and has the knowledge as to how to produce weapons of mass destruction." There is one slight problem with Mr. Bush's summary though: Agence France-Presse reported that during a recent CBS 60 Minutes interview, a retired CIA operative, Tyler Drumheller Drumheller (drŭm`hĕl'ər), city (1991 pop. 6,277), SE Alta., Canada, on the Red Deer River. Once a coal mining town, it is now an agricultural area. It is the site of the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology, which houses the largest display of complete dinosaur skeletons in the world., said that prior to the invasion of Iraq, the CIA had learned from former Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri--who doubled as a covert intelligence agent--that it was highly doubtful that any weapons of mass destruction would be found in Saddam's fiefdom. "The group that was dealing with preparation for the Iraq war came back and said they were no longer interested," said Drumheller. "And we said 'Well, what about the intel?' And they said 'Well, this isn't about intel anymore. This is about regime change.'" |
