Bush beats around biotech. (Africa).


On May 21, 2003, President George Bush informally charged all of Europe with proliferating famine in Africa by blocking the import into Europe of genetically modified genetically modified

The US government says it plans to sue the European Union European Union (EU), name given since the ratification (Nov., 1993) of the Treaty of European Union, or Maastricht Treaty, to the

 unless the EU immediately opens its market to millions of dollars' worth of genetically modified products.

"They have blocked all new biocrops [sic] because of unfounded, unscientific unscientific Unproven, see there  fears," Bush said in a commencement address to the Coast Guard Academy this spring. "This has caused many African nations to avoid investing in biotechnologies for fear that their products will be shut out of European markets."

Opposition groups, along with what appears to be the majority of Europe, question the unknown dangers to human health and the potential damage to the environment from genetically modified organisms ge·net·i·cal·ly modified organism
