Buses out of step for club.

Dance-loving old folk are having to quick-step home from a social club because there are no late buses.

North Biddick and District Social Club, Fatfield, Washington, has a 2,000-strong membership.

The club committee has just spent pounds 150,000 modernising the bar and lounge area, and an pounds 80,000 refit of the concert room is also under way.

Club chairman Jimmy Todd said: "Friday and Saturday are a nightmare for our OAPs attending their dance nights.

"Everyone can catch the bus to the club, but when it comes to getting home, the last bus is at 8.50pm.

"After that, all buses bypass us."

The last bus to stop outside the club is the 777 at 8.50 on a Friday and Saturday night.

The 180's route and timetable were changed, while the 194 and 638 bypass the club.

Transport operators say the services were changed due to past problems of violence.
