Offers Enterprise Customers a Simple, Compliant, Secure and Fast Nearline Archive Solution

BURLINGTON, Mass. -- Bus-Tech, Inc., a market leader in mainframe tape-on-disk controllers and data center connectivity products, today announced its membership in the Hitachi Data Systems See HDS.  ISV (Independent Software Vendor) A person or company that develops software. It implies an organization that specializes in software only and is not part of a computer systems or hardware manufacturer.  Partner Program. In support of the Hitachi Data Systems partnership, Bus-Tech's Mainframe Appliance for Storage (MAS) tape controller will support the Hitachi Content Archive Platform. With this announcement, Bus-Tech and Hitachi Data Systems provide a mainframe digital archiving solution to better manage information growth, regulatory compliance, and governance for secure long-term preservation and retention of digital content, and also ready access to content whenever it is needed. As a member of the Hitachi Data Systems ISV Partner Program, Bus-Tech will provide a completely complimentary mainframe tape-on-disk solution for standard tape operations through collaboration with Hitachi Data Systems. The combined Hitachi Content Archive Platform and Bus-Tech's Mainframe Appliance for Storage offering is delivering a fully integrated solution.

"Hitachi Data Systems' partnership with Bus-Tech represents further industry endorsement of the Mainframe Appliance for Storage (MAS). We are thrilled that Hitachi Data Systems with its position in the mainframe enterprise space has chosen to utilize Bus-Tech in satisfying its customers' archive requirements," said Al Brandt, President, Bus-Tech, Inc.

The MAS is a tape-on-disk controller that attaches directly to the mainframe FICON (FIber CONnector) An IBM mainframe channel introduced with its G5 servers in 1998. Based on the Fibre Channel standard, it boosts the transfer rate of ESCON's half-duplex 17MB/sec to a full-duplex 100MB/sec.  or ESCON (Enterprise Systems CONnection) An IBM S/390 fiber-optic channel that transfers 17 Mbytes/sec over distances up to 60 km depending on connection type. ESCON allows peripheral devices to be located across large campuses and metropolitan areas.  input/output channels and uses standard Gigabit Ethernet An Ethernet standard that transmits at 1 Gbps. Used mostly to connect high-end workstations and servers as well as for network backbones, Gigabit Ethernet transmits full duplex from point to point using switches and half duplex in a shared environment (CSMA/CD) using a hub.  IP to attach to the Hitachi Content Archive Platform. To the mainframe, the MAS emulates up to two-hundred fifty-six 3480/3490/3590 tape drives, allowing mainframe-based applications to transparently store data on Hitachi Content Archive Platform by writing files to an emulated tape device. With the joint solution, customers will receive the benefits of the MAS with the Hitachi Content Archive Platform, specifically fast data retrieval, cost competitive disk economics, large capacity in a small footprint, and industry leading options for data replication In database management, the ability to keep distributed databases synchronized by routinely copying the entire database or subsets of the database to other servers in the network.

There are various replication methods.
