Bus facility step nearer.


Plans for a pounds 400,000 bus interchange facility at the rail station at Berwick have moved a step forward.

English Heritage English Heritage is a non-departmental public body of the United Kingdom government (Department for Culture, Media and Sport) with a broad remit of managing the historic environment of England. It was set up under the terms of the National Heritage Act 1983.  is understood to have indicated general approval of the scheme, and Berwick Borough Council is now waiting for formal consent before proceeding. The idea is to link bus and rail services, and a new traffic management scheme is to be introduced in the area with additional car parking at the station.

Focus on ruins

TALKS are to be held aimed at improving the view of the ruins of Berwick Castle Berwick Castle is a ruined castle in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England (grid reference NT994533).

It was founded in the 12th century by the Scottish King David I.

The local Castlegate Area Residents Association believes the ruins, which date back to the 12th Century, should be more accessible to visitors, with interpretation panels provided detailing the history of the site which overlooks the Tweed near Berwick rail station. Now Berwick Borough Council is to discuss the possibilities with Northumberland County Northumberland County is the name of several counties in Northern America:

  • Northumberland County, Pennsylvania
  • Northumberland County, Virginia
 Council and English Heritage.

Craft morning

GROUNDWORK West Durham is holding a morning of badge-making and nature craft activities in Chester-le-Street library on Saturday, February 7. The session will run from 9.30am until noon and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Food venture

They used the pounds 27,000 to convert a redundant building into a food processing plant. Other sausage flavours include hot and an unusual marmalade and ginger flavour. Their produce is available at farmers' markets across the region.

Wind farm idea

COUNCILLORS in Berwick have agreed to accept in principle that an area to the south west of the town may be suitable for a wind farm development.

But they have indicated that detailed investigations would be required before any formal approval was given for a scheme of between five and 25 wind turbines. The area near Ford and Etal has been identified as part of a draft policy for Northumberland.

Public talks

TWO public meetings have been arranged to give people the opportunity to discuss plans by Berwick Borough Council for the coming financial year.

The meetings, which will be held within seven days starting at the end of the month, will be in Wooler, Seahouses and Berwick.
