The city contains the Borough of Woodmont (a separate incorporated place within the city) and Devon. The current mayor of Milford is James L. Richetelli, Jr. , driver felt intense heat under the floorboards of her bus, she reacted instantly. Murray described the experience to the New Haven Register The New Haven Register is a daily newspaper published in New Haven, Connecticut. It is the second largest newspaper in Connecticut, behind The Hartford Courant. It is owned by the Journal Register Company in Yardley, Pennsylvania. : "The front panel started smoking, and I automatically stopped the bus. I told the children that we needed to leave the bus immediately. When I saw the smoke, there was no way that I was going to wait for anything--we had to get the children off that bus, and fast." Murray stopped the bus and immediately began evacuating the children, aged 5 through 10. Joey described the youngsters' role in the evacuation: "Tyler and I helped the younger children exit the bus from the back. When the bus stopped, we followed the instructions of our bus driver. The driver spoke of the brave students' actions in glowing terms and believes that the young heroes saved many lives: "I was so proud of the way the older children responded. The younger children were very scared." Following the incident, Murray received praise from many sources, from the community of Milford to the state capital. Milford Mayor James L. Richetelli, Jr., said he received calls from many parents asking him to have the city recognize the driver's heroic actions. Said the mayor: "The entire community wants to express its gratitude and heartfelt heart·felt adj.
