Burr-Brown Introduces Low-Cost, 16-Bit Analog-to-Digital Converter in Miniature Package.TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 1999-- Burr-Brown Corporation The Burr-Brown Corporation was a United States technology company which designed, manufactured, and marketed a broad line of proprietary, standard, high-performance, analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits (ICs) used in electronic signal processing. (NASDAQ NASDAQ in full National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations U.S. market for over-the-counter securities. Established in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), NASDAQ is an automated quotation system that reports on :BBRC BBRC Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications BBRC Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club (Washington state) BBRC Ball Brothers Research Corporation ) today announced the ADS8321, a low-cost, 16-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC (1) See A/D converter. (2) (Apple Display Connector) A peripheral connector from Apple that combines digital video display, USB and power in one cable. ) developed specifically for industrial data acquisition and instrumentation systems. Packaged in the miniature MSOP-8 package, the ADS8321 requires very little power when operating at the full sampling rate (4.5mW at 100kHz). At lower conversion rates (10kHz), power dissipation is reduced to less than 1mW. The device employs a unique power-down mode which reduces supply current to 3 micro-amps max. The combination of high resolution, low power, and tiny packaging makes the ADS8321 ideal for battery-operated systems, remote data acquisition, simultaneous multi-channel systems, and isolated data acquisition. Within these systems, the ADS8321 converts analog ("real world") signals into digital data for use with microprocessors. "The ADS8321 allows designers to remove the standard 12-bit ADCs in their systems and upgrade to a cost-competitive, high-performance 16-bit ADC solution--without costly board layout changes," said Wayne Talley, strategic marketing engineer at Burr-Brown. "With the ADS8321, we have enhanced our innovative product line of the smallest 16-bit ADCs in the industry." The ADS8321 features a bipolar (1) See bipolar transmission. (2) One of two major categories of transistor; the other is "field effect transistor" (FET). Although the first transistors and first silicon chips were bipolar, most chips today are field effect transistors wired as CMOS logic, which input range, 5V operation, synchronous serial interface (SSI/SPI), low noise (<20 micro-volts rms), and a differential input to reduce noise interference. The ADS8321 is priced from $6.25 in 1,000 piece quantities and packaged in an 8-lead MSOP MSOP Mini Small Outline Package MSOP Mini Series of Poker MSOP Minnesota Sex Offender Program MSOP Management Stock Option Plan MSOP Memphis School of Preaching (Memphis, TN) MSOP Minimum Sum-Of-Products .
