The Burns School of Blackbelts (BBSB) were in knockout form in the North of England Championships earlier this month. BBSB took 12 students to compete in the competition, which attracted hundreds of participants for as far away as Nottingham. In a fantastic tournament for the school, all students performed beyond expectation and fought off stiff competition. Gold medals went to Callum Dillon for points sparring, while Kielly Mather and Rick Burns both won their forms competitions. In the points sparring competition, runners-up medals went to Caitlin Richardson, Libby Sansom, Lisa Lawrie, Ryan Malia, Kevin Dryden, Rick Burns and Gary Sansom In the forms division, Kyle Affleck, Libby and Gary Sansom Richardson, Dillon and Dryden all finished in second place. Michelle Turnbull won a bronze medal in both the points and forms sparring. Sensai Rick Burns was delighted with his school's achievements. He said: "All the team performed above and beyond expectation, showing not only great skill and agility but true spirit.
