Compliance Department has put on line their new 55-foot tractor and trailer Hazardous Materials & Confined Space Rescue Confined space rescue is a subset of technical rescue operations that involves the rescue and recovery of victims trapped in a confined space or in a place only accessible through confined spaces, such as underground vaults, storage silos, storage tanks, or sewers. Response Unit. This project has taken 10 months to complete and has utilized 245 man-hours of the HazMat members time in putting this new unit on line. Several organizations have contributed to putting the new unit on line such as: the Burlington Police Department, the Graham Fire Department, the North Carolina North Carolina, state in the SE United States. The Hazardous Materials and Confined Space Rescue Team is a listed resource with the North Carolina Emergency Management Agency as well as the Federal Emergency Management Agency The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is the federal agency responsible for coordinating emergency planning, preparedness, risk reduction, response, and recovery. The agency works closely with state and local governments by funding emergency programs and providing technical . The members of the HazMat team have had over 16,000 man-hours of advanced training and is staffed with 13 Hazardous Materials Technicians and 3 Hazardous Materials Specialist. The team has responded to over 325 technician level calls since organized in December of 1989. Responses have been in the state of North Carolina, South Carolina South Carolina, state of the SE United States. It is bordered by North Carolina (N), the Atlantic Ocean (SE), and Georgia (SW). The team is very active in public relation activities and has carried out over 360 hours of community outreach activities since 1990. They have delivered over 480 hours of training to outside agencies such as public safety organizations since 1992. The team is also responsible for responding to Code Blue responses at both facilities of Burlington Chemical Company. Code Blue responders are trained up to the defibrillator defibrillator, device that delivers an electrical shock to the heart in order to stop certain forms of rapid heart rhythm disturbances (arrhythmias). The shock changes a fibrillation to an organized rhythm or changes a very rapid and ineffective cardiac rhythm to a level. The team also is responsible for the company's fire brigade, disaster response and recovery, and facility security programs. Burlington Chemical is committed to providing the emergency response services as necessary on site as well as in their community.
