Burlington Northern agent admits in court that he lied.

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 1996--

Update regarding Dallas jury award of $8.5 million to

General Projection Systems Inc. against Burlington

Northern Railroad Co.

Responding today to Burlington Northern's refusal to comment on allegations that Burlington's agent admitted in court he had lied to General Projection employees, General Projection attaches an excerpt ex·cerpt

Drake Wayson, president of General Projection: "We had known about, and demonstrated in court, Burlington's behavior in this matter. It's clear from the award of $7.5 million in punitive damages Monetary compensation awarded to an injured party that goes beyond that which is necessary to compensate the individual for losses and that is intended to punish the wrongdoer.  that the jury felt such action must not be tolerated. What is most disappointing to me is to have been present to listen to Burlington's `contrition' in the courtroom last week during the punitive phase of the trial and now to see that they not only will not acknowledge what their own agent admitted or the actions that they took, but intend to appeal the very decision made by the jury regarding Burlington's behavior.

"I think that it is important for Burlington to explain its actions for the benefit of the people they deal with, whether they be contractors, vendors, employees or stockholders. By their statement, it does not appear that Burlington intends to learn from this event. If that is true, then I am truly disappointed."
