.) company, announced today its WA-7000B Multi-line WAVEMETER(R) Optical Channel Analyzer has been named a 2000 Technology Award Winner by readers of Fiberoptic Product News magazine.

The WA-7000B Multi-line WAVEMETER(R), which was selected from 26 nominees, was recognized at a reception hosted by the magazine at OFC OFC Office

Burleigh introduced the WA-7000B Multi-line WAVEMETER(R) in early 2000. Two enhanced models have since been added to the WA-7000 series: WA-7600 and WA-7100. The WA-7600 surpasses the industry-leading absolute wavelength accuracy of the award-winning instrument by almost a full order of magnitude A change in quantity or volume as measured by the decimal point. For example, from tens to hundreds is one order of magnitude. Tens to thousands is two orders of magnitude; tens to millions is three orders of magnitude, etc. .

"Continuing advances in DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM.

DWDM - wavelength division multiplexing
* mean that manufacturers need more sophisticated test and measurement instrumentation to keep up with the technology," said Dr. Brian Samoriski, director of Burleigh's Optical Instruments Division. "As channel spacing becomes tighter, the ability to measure optical wavelengths more accurately becomes crucial.

"High-performance instruments, such as the WA-7600 and WA-7100, provide accurate and reliable measurements for designing and qualifying DWDM systems which, in turn, increase their long-term operation."

* Dense wavelength division multiplexing See WDM.  (DWDM) is a key enabling technology that increases bandwidth capacity by combining beams of light of slightly different wavelengths through a single fiber, with each fiber carrying its own stream of information.
