Burke-Couey. (2003 Wedding Register).

Dudley Myers Burke and John Holt Couey were united in marriage on the evening of August 31, 2002, at the First Baptist Church of Leland.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Rule Burke, Jr. of Ruleville. She is the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. Carl Grady Nichols of Leland and the late Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Rule Burke of Ruleville.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gary Couey of Clinton. He is the grandson of Mrs. Jessie Holt Melton of Long Beach and the late Mr. Melton, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Ezel Couey of Rosedale.

The double-ring ceremony was officiated by Dr. Jon Doler. Musicians were Mrs. E.P. Tolbert, organist; Mrs. Beverly Terrell, pianist; and Dr. Pat Burke, soloist. The wedding director was Mrs. E.L. Boteler.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a candlelight satin gown featuring a bodice accented with seed pearls. She wore her mother's Brussels lace wedding veil and carried a cascading bouquet of white roses, stephanotis, and dendrobium orchids.

Attending the bride as maid of honor was All Couey, sister of the groom. Matron of honor was Leslie Shive. Bridesmaids were Jane Marie Dawkins, Leigh Flemmons, Salena Jenkins, Dabney Kessing, and Robin McKnight. Liese Nichols served as proxy, and flower girl was Elizabeth Thomas. The attendants wore primrose satin gowns and carried bouquets of pink Anne and sweetheart roses.

Gary Couey served his son as best man. Groomsmen were Jason Bond, David Brown, Dee Burke, Dean Burrell, Cliff Clifford, and Justin Robison. Serving as ushers were Rob Dawkins, Will Dawkins, and Stephen Oseman. Ring bearers were Carl and Phillip Nichols.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride's grandparents. Hurricane lamps and lanterns lit the walkway and garden. Mrs. Roy Meeks designed floral arrangements of roses, lilies, gladiola, chrysanthemums, alstoemeria, and snapdragons throughout the ceremony and reception. Mrs. Mary Ann Tribble provided catering, and musical entertainment was provided by Bruce Brewer and Friends.

On the eve of the wedding, the parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at How Joy Restaurant in Greenville, where the groom had proposed with a fortune cookie. A wedding day brunch was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Dawkins of Greenville.

After a honeymoon to Cancun, Mexico, the couple is at home in Greenville.
