 2005 Award for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research. Speed's award recognizes his work on "Leroy Anderson Leroy Anderson (June 29, 1908–May 18, 1975) was an American composer of short, light concert pieces, many of which were introduced by the Boston Pops Orchestra under the direction of Arthur Fiedler. : A Bio-Bibliography," which he co-authored with Eleanor Anderson and Steve Metcalf Stephen Michael Metcalf is a U.S. politician. A professional educator and musician, Speed has been associated with the Leroy Anderson Estate since 1998. For the past nine years he has taught music privately and in the classroom, and has performed with many notable artists, including legendary clarinetist David Krakauer David Krakauer is an American clarinetist. He is mostly known for his klezmer compositions. He started first as a classical musician and soon discovered klezmer music thanks to the band “Les Klezmatics, Klezmorim” with whom he played, as well as with the Kronos Quartet. .

Since 2004, Speed has been an editor for National Guitar Workshop Publications, an affiliate company of the National Guitar Workshop and WorkshopLive. He edits text, produces CDs and is also involved with the production of instructional DVDs.
